Targets of NKN Print E-mail
2005, the year we initiated the NKN, NF’s goals for the programme were as following:
  • Establish, revitalise and foster a national grid of 65 knowledge centres in 6 states
  • Target children, women and young people as change agents
  • Engage industry, civil society, and governments in synergistic interventions through the power of partnerships
  • Knowledge centre to train community members in life skills, health and sanitation topics, provide information about livelihood support and alternative livelihoods, basic IT skills, etc.
  • Engage the community with the centre in such a way as to make it financially and institutionally sustainable
The last two years have seen a tremendous growth in the NKN, in terms of presence in states, number of centres, community members trained and linkages formed to support the programme. The focus of the network is to draw up a long-term sustainability plan for the centres and to provide content and services that address the needs of the local communities. The aim is that all this will help make significant impact on social development indicators of the communities in which the centres work.
