The will to ‘get involved’ and the ‘willingness’ to contribute & give back to society are all there, both from the Individual perspective & also Corporate; but the path remains unclear. NF I-Get Involved
Program focuses to define this path by encouraging contributions & involvement, initiating alliances & becoming a bridging catalyst encouraging members to do more, capturing best practices; & henceforth promoting and assisting the replication of both good works & CSR practices. The Program also seeks to harness a greater array of resources - intellectual and financial, from the industry and beyond - to make a major impact on the development of society & grassroot community. It thereby also sensitizes NASSCOM members companies & other corporate bodies to leverage their core competencies to reach out to the underserved through NF’s various I-Get Involved channels, viz. volunteering services, payroll giving programs, endowments, sabbaticals, donations etc.
At the moment NF has been involving corporates through providing multiple avenues to member companies, in terms of their CSR initiatives & aims. Projects have been categorised under two heads – activities that a Corporate can take up and those that corporate Employees might be interested in taking part in.
FOR A CORPORATE - Knowledge Centre Involvement/ Adoption – (West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat): The NASSCOM Knowledge Network program aims to establish, revitalise and foster a national grid of rural knowledge centres in strategic locations in the coastal states of the country. Each centre would have 3-5 multi-media enabled computers with connectivity and provide need-based services to the community in areas such as education, health, governance, information and communication.
FOR CORPORATE EMPLOYEES
These are projects that Corporate employees can be encouraged to take up as part of personal development and an attempt to share their success with the rest of society; as well as, to better understand the community in which they live and work; & get involved in. - Creating Library – Sharing knowledge with others. Donating old books and magazines to encourage the reading habit in young children and help them access & gain a better understanding of the world around them.
- Designing basic computer hardware-maintenance-courses –Do you have knowledge about computer hardware and basic networking? You can help design a basic hardware and computer maintenance course for lay persons. With knowledge centres coming up across the length and breadth of the country, the need for content and training modules is becoming increasingly important. A basic course in computer hardware, networking and maintenance is one of the most essential requirements. The course could include knowledge on assembly, upgrades, etc. This will in turn act as a litmus test for students wanting to pursue hardware training on a professional level or as a vocation.
- Basic IT training – Have time on your hands and a clear understanding of basic IT? Opportunities abound for MS office training in the NCR region with various NGOs.
- English language training – Do you have a good command over English and like teaching?
- Voice recording – Organisations such as the National Association for the Blind (NAB) are in urgent need of volunteers who would record text material into voice based books for the visually impaired. Requirements are for both Hindi and English.
