About Gaurav Mishra

Gaurav Mishra is CEO of Social Business Strategy firm 20:20 Social. In his previous avatars, he has studied at IIM Bangalore, held senior marketing roles at the Tata Group, taught social media at Georgetown University as the 2008-09 Yahoo! Fellow, and co-founded Vote Report India.

Previously, Gaurav was a part of Tata Administrative Service (TAS), which is Tata Group’s fast track program to groom recruits for senior management roles by providing cross-company and cross-functional exposure. Gaurav’s last role at the Tata Group was as Assistant General Manager (Brand Head Indica) at Tata Motors, where his responsibilities included managing national level sales and marketing, and developing traditional and digital marketing programs for Indica, one of India’s leading automobile brands.

Gaurav is leading research on social media and mobile use in the BRIC countries, with a focus on digital activism in India and China, as the 2008-09 Yahoo! Fellow in Residence at Georgetown University and a 2009 Society for New Communications Research Fellow. At Georgetown University, Gaurav also taught a graduate course on “Social Media in Business, Civil Society and Government”.

Gaurav is frequently quoted in Indian and international media on topics related to social media, digital activism and citizen journalism and is a regular speaker at conferences.

Gaurav has contributed chapters to two books on social media and is writing chapters for three forthcoming books on online journalism, digital activism and government 2.0.

Gaurav writes a popular blog on social media and social change at Gauravonomics Blog, which is amongst the 150 most popular marketing and PR blogs internationally, as per the AdAge Power 150 rankings. Gaurav also write blogs on social media analytics and anti-consumerism and contributes to several well-known international group blogs like Global Voices, Global Voices Advocacy, DigiActive, MobileActive.org, True/ Slant and Netfluence.org.

Gaurav graduated in the top 20% of his PGDM (MBA) batch of 2002 at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, one of the most reputed business schools in India.
