NF’s BiG Tech Program that enables technology donations to NGOs. NF in partnership with Techsoup.org, a US based organisation provides online donations to NGOs in India through the BiG Tech Program. NGOs can visit www.bigtech.in to check out the eligibility criteria and thereafter apply for a donation. Vidya Poshak (VP), a non profit organization based in Dharwad did just that. VP identifies bright students from economically challenged families and provides them with financial and academic assistance to continue their studies. VP was the first donee under BiG Tech program. VP utilized the software received through BiG Tech, to train and place around 100 students on Desk Top Application along with teaching them communication (spoken English) through Their Graduate Finishing School. Prof. Tikot, CEO and founder says, ‘We thank Microsoft India and NASSCOM Foundation for their generous support in giving us these software donations’ The BiG Tech portal is a convenient and transparent portal that enables any Indian as well as foreign technology companies to reach out the million plus NGO community in India. It makes technology assistance accessible to any NGO in India just a click away. Microsoft was the first donor on this platform for India and several others on the anvil. Technology companies can leverage and use the BiG Tech portal as part of their CSR objective by donating hardware, software, services as well as philanthropy. Ramkrishna Mission Students Home (Orphanage) Boys is for orphans and destitute children. The RMS Home provides basic necessity to children. Apart from a child’s need for education, recreational activities are also taken care of. Thus once a boy is admitted, he continues in the Home till he is an adult. The child is also educated upto a level when he can earn his living and become independent. After being awarded the software donation through NF’s BiG Tech program, Swami Deshikatmananda Secretary of RMS Home says “these donated software will be used for educational needs. The Software donation from Microsoft through NASSCOM Foundation will be very useful to train all the senior students of our Students Home (Orphanage)” Another important aspect of the BiG Tech Program is to arrest the perennial problem of software piracy and re-furbished hardware. Since NASSCOM does represent the IT industry, it becomes a natural partner of choice for technology corporations to do their bit of social responsibility and philanthropy. |
