Transforming India Bit by Bit

Accelerating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Through Technology

With just 7 years to go for the 2030 target, there is a lot we need to achieve before we are on track to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN General Assembly for the 2030 Agenda has stated that “the spread of information and communications technology and global interconnectedness has great potential to accelerate human progress, to bridge the digital divide and to develop knowledge societies”
The UN Assembly sees ICT infrastructure as a cross-cutting ‘means of implementation,’ underpinning the achievement of every goal. All three pillars of sustainable development – economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental protection – need ICT as a key catalyst.
The 17 SDGs can be realized, but only with greater progress in the speed, degree and equality of development. Economic growth in the business-as-usual context will not achieve the SDGs.

Only ICT, particularly broadband, can provide this surge in development

The Road To SDGs – What lies ahead

Gauging by just the mammoth task that lies ahead, achieving the SDGs by 2030 demands new strategies.

Let’s understand the complex nature of roadblocks we are up against while driving any far-reaching and meaningful change in India

Infrastructural Roadblocks

the lack of appropriate physical infrastructure (IT, telecom, roads) that actors need to function

Network Roadblocks

Lack of collaboration & interaction between actors and leading to no knowledge exchange, learning

Institutional Challenges

legal + informal institutions (social norms and values, entrepreneurial culture, risk-taking attitude, etc.) that hinder innovation

Capabilities Challenges

the lack of competences & resources impeding use, adoption and creation of new knowledge and technology.

The Intersectionality of Technology makes it a Force Multiplier and our hope for success!
Technology has the power to surmount each one of these challenges. It can create routes to infrastructural access, mechanisms that build Institutional synergies, frameworks that can bridge network failures and models for capacity development to promote inclusive growth.
