NASSCOM KNOWLEDGE NETWORK (NKN)

NKN is a network of telecentres that provide access to knowledge and information in education, livelihood, health, to improve the capacities for employment and entrepreneurship of underserved communities in rural and urban areas. The centres are variously called as knowledge centres, learning centres, resource centres and information and service centres.

Implementation partners

These partners, mainly NGOS, CBOs, (Community Based Organisations), Corporate run Foundations, youth groups and various other not-for-technology groups are responsible for running the knowledge centres in chosen locations. They contribute in providing the space for the centres, pooling resources in setting up the centre with requisite hardware and provide manpower to run the centres. They are also responsible for local outreach and publicity for the centers to ensure communities near the centre are aware of the centre and are benefited by the services provided by the centre.

Adi gram Samiti (AGS):

AGS is based in bihar and works with the objective to assess and generate awareness and provide services relating to issues such as health, education, sanitation, communication, housing, income and co-operative schemes. AGS runs NKN centre in Bihar.

ARAVALI:

Aravali was initiated as a result of the joint effort of the Government of Rajasthan and a few leading voluntary agencies in 1994 to promote innovations in development and act as a interface between the government and the voluntary organizations. Aravali runs NKN centre in Rajasthan.

Ambuja Cement Foundation:

The Ambuja Cement Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility wing of Ambuja Cements Ltd. that works with the rural communities surrounding Ambuja’s manufacturing sites. The Foundation is engaged in a variety of people-centric, integrated rural development projects. Ambuja runs knowledge centres in Maharahstra and Rajasthan

Birbhumir Gramin Unnayan Society (BiGUS):

Birbhumir Gramin Unnayan Society works in various parts of West Bengal and parts of Jharkhand. BIGUS primarily specializes in use of IEC/BCC tools along with ICT for poverty alleviation through the formation of family based neighborhood groups and strengthening of local self governments. Bigus runs knowledge centres works as a development partner with BIGUS in supporting NKN centers in West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Chethana

Chethana, is a grassroot organizations based in Bangalore is engaged with the most of vulnerable sections of Indian society (Dalits, Tribal, Women, Small and marginal farmers, Bamboo Workers/Rural Artisans) and committed to the creation of a just, participatory and sustainable world order. Chethana works extensively self help groups and destitute women. Chethana runs knowledge centres in Karnataka.

FIDR:

FIDR concentrates on ICT interventions in the state of Orissa with the help of UNDP and as an implementing partner (sub-grantee). The objective of FIDR’s ICT program is to improve e-literacy among rural people through computer education and training, and enhance livelihood and quality of life with the use of ICT. FIDR runs knowledge centres in Orissa.

GTL Foundation:

The GTL Foundation is a Public Charitable Trust of the Global Group, a diversified telecom infrastructure group focused on network services. An essential component of the Global Group’s Corporate Responsibility is to care for the community. The group endeavors to make a positive contribution to the underprivileged communities by supporting a wide range of socio-economic, educational and health initiatives through NKN centres in Maharahstra.

Janvi Charitable Trust:

Organization Providing shelter, education service, medical services for poor and depressed persons Janvi Charitable Trust runs knowledge centres in Mumbai.

Jivan Jyot pratisthan:

Jivan Jyot’s major activities are related to Dalit welfare, Consumer awareness, Educational development, Children and women welfare, Health awareness, Tribal awareness, Environment, Water resources etc. Jivan Jyot pratisthan runs a NKN centre in Mumbai.

Lokmangal:

Lokmangal Sanstha is a non-profitable, voluntary organization (NG0) collaborated with local people for women’s development, social action movements, to promote social justice and human rights. Will run NKN centre in Mumbai and Nasik in Maharahstra

MITCON Foundation:

Promoted by Mitcon Limited, a professional consultancy organization jointly established by ICICI, IDBI, IFCI, SICOM, MIDC, MSSIDC and Commercial Bank, MITCON Foundation has been established exclusively to serve a variety of social needs in a better manner. MITCON Foundation runs knowledge centres in Pune.

Nanritam

NANRITAM, is a welfare organization was started in the year 2001, aim is to fight against illness, illiteracy & poverty Irrespective of caste, creed, religion or profession and inspired by RamaKrishna Mission & its ideal of service to mankind. Nanritam runs NKN centre in West Bengal.

Population First:

Population First is an NGO working on population and health issues within the framework of women's rights and social development. Population First runs NKN centres in Maharahstra.

Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS):

PMSSS is a non-governmental organization established in the year 1977 and works for the welfare and development of the poor and marginalized. The major activities of PMSSS are Relief, Welfare, Non-Formal Education and Training. In liaison with NASSCOM Foundation, PMSSS conducts literacy programs, health awareness campaigns and the most effective SHG training program carried out through NKN centres in Pondicherry.

Rotary Club of Gurgaon:

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary Club runs knowledge centres in Gurgaon.

Sai Swayam Society

Sai Swayam Society works for hearing impaired Is Devoted to the concerns of hearing and speech impaired people. One major activities is to create awareness about the importance of Sign Language and about the need for every person to know the basics of sign language. Sai runs knowledge centres in Delhi.

Sanskriti Sarvarvardhan Mandal (SSM):

SSM a rural voluntary organization founded in 1959 was initially setup for educating and enlightening children in the area, which then had no school in a radius of 50 km. The school, which started with 36 students and a few huts has now grown enormously into a two storey, well equipped school building and a hostel accommodating 1600 rural boys and girls. SSM runs NKN centres in Maharashtra

Shaishav:

Shaishav, which means childhood in Gujarati and many other Indian languages, is a volunteer organisation working in Gujarat is committed to the rights of children. Shiaishav runs and manages knowledge centres in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

Srinivasan Service Trust (SST):

Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), social arm of Sundaram-Clayton Limited and TVS Motor Company for charitable purposes has been promoting holistic and sustainable development of rural communities in districts of Tamilnadu, Karnataka Pune District a, Nagapattinam and Kanyakumari District on Tsunami affected area. Since the inception, SST has been actively engaging in community development working and runs NKN centres in Karnataka and Tamilnadu

Students Partnership worldwide - India Project (SPW):

SPW is the global leader in supporting young people to address the urgent health, education, and environmental issues which affect their lives, communities, and countries. SPW harnesses the energy and talent of educated young volunteers from overseas and utilizes the huge untapped resource of Indian students and graduates from local communities. SPW runs knowledge centres in Tamil Nadu.

South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies (SIFFS):

South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies (SIFFS) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working in the marine fisheries sector. SIFFS is the apex body of organizations of small-scale artisanal fish workers. With over 9,000 member fishermen, organized through 153 primary societies in eight districts of southern peninsular India. SIFFS has been in partnership with the NASSCOM Foundation since 2007 running over NKN centres.

Suraj Foundation:

Suraj Foundation Group of Educational Institutes is a CSR initiative of Pranav Group of Companies, Pune. The foundation provides education to all communities, specially, to meet the upcoming demands of the cosmopolitan society in the industrial sector. Also, Suraj Foundation has trained agro entrepreneurs by providing them with relevant information with the Knowledge Centre, which helps them in their business. Suraj Foundation runs NKN centres in Maharahstra and Karnataka.

Sujaya Foundation:

Sujaya Foundation gives underprivileged children and youth an opportunity platform to launch them into the dignified and bright future they deserve. Sujaya Foundation runs and manages knowledge centres in Mumbai.

Suzlon Foundation:

Suzlon Foundation leads corporate social responsibility initiatives for Suzlon group of companies. The Foundation is committed to practice sustainable development for “Powering a Greener Tomorrow”. Suzlon runs and manages knowledge centres in Maharashtra

Technology for the People (TFTP):

TFTP was founded as a technical support organization to promote developmental issues through appropriate technology and support the use of ICT in expanding the existing activities in areas of education, hygiene, child rehabilitation and economic empowerment. TFTP runs knowledge centres in Andhra Pradesh.

Voluntary Association for People Service (VAPS):

VAPS works in the areas of Communication, Training and Social Research with special expertise in imparting training in the area of 'Training for Trainers', Agriclinics & Agribusiness. It also runs 11 free tuition centres for the poor and disadvantaged children in the villages of Virudhunagar district. VAPS runs knowledge centres in Tamil Nadu.

Zensar Foundation:

CSR wing of Zenzar, Zensar Foundation established for the purpose of improving, guiding and inspiring the lives of the underprivileged, it facilitates programs and gives direct assistance and resources to individuals, families and other charitable organizations. Zensar, joined hands with NASSCOM Foundation to launch the first School knowledge centre in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Byrraju Foundation:

The Foundation seeks to build progressive and self-reliant rural communities by providing services in healthcare, environment, sanitation, primary education, adult literacy and skills development. The Foundation runs knowledge centres in Andhra Pradesh.

SEWA:

The SEWA Academy is the focal point for all of SEWA’s capacity building and research efforts. It provides SEWA’s members their first introduction to a formal learning environment. It has been a partner to the NKN program since 2007. SEWA runs and manages knowledge centres in Gujarat.

KMVS:

Kutch Mahila Vikas Sanghathan based in Gujarat, is a collective of rural women located in Gujarat striving for socio-economic and political empowerment, who have come together to form self-sustaining producer groups. KMVS runs knowledge centres in Gujarat.

MSSRF:

M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation is a non-profit research organization and was established in 1988. M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) has all along been developing and following a pro-nature, pro-poor, pro-women and pro-sustainable on-farm and non-farm livelihoods through appropriate eco-technology and knowledge empowerment. MSSRF used to run and manage NKN centre in Tamilnadu
