Support for Cyclone Thane

Cyclone Thane  

NASSCOM Foundation calls for support from its member companies for contribution towards cyclone Thane and the devastating effect it has caused in the coastal and rural villages of Tamil Nadu. Pondicherry and Cuddalore districts are worst affected by the cyclone. More than 10,000 families are affected.

Items that we urgently need are :

  • New Mosquito net
  • Blankets
  • Torch/candles
  • Tarpaulins sheets

 

A few organizations who are actively involved in relief work are as below.

We request you all to join hands and support both in kind donations and financially.

  • PMSSS
    Distributing mosquito nets, candles, torches and hygiene kits. Fundraising for the same and for dry rations, school stationary, etc.

  • Goonj
    Collecting in kind donations of dry rations, medicines and clothes.

  • BEDROC
    Constituted 12 Rapid Assessment Teams in Pondicherry and 5 Teams in Cuddalore for systematic and comprehensive data collection of the situation in the region. Special care is being taken to support with education material.

  • Sphere India
    Impact study and coordination with local NGOs.
  • Red Cross
    Emergency response teams and trained volunteers have delivered supplies such as food packets, utensils, candles and water containers to those in most need, working alongside government response efforts. Assessment teams are surveying the scale of the destruction in order to develop appropriate response to assist the recovery efforts needed.

  • Care India
    Has identified urgent needs like shelter, electricity supply, and clean water. Tarpaulins, candles, matches, floor mats and hygiene kits, particularly to help pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls, are required.

  • ASSCOD
    Completed distributing bedding materials and rice. Fundraising for more of such activities.

  • SEEDS
    Impact and damage study of cyclone is complete and is fundraising for implementation e.g. rebuild the thatched houses.
