The Community Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher (Community MAR) programme works with eligible refurbishers to provide genuine Microsoft software on refurbished computers for eligible recipients.

The primary goal of the Community MAR programme is to increase the number of low-cost computers available to eligible charitable organizations, eligible academic users, and other community users. In addition, the Community MAR programme benefits the environment by helping to prevent the premature disposal of computers that could be reused.

How the Community MAR programme works
The Community MAR programme authorizes eligible refurbishers to install a range of software on refurbished computers for eligible recipients:

Windows 2000 is available for all computers through the programme
Windows XP is available for computers that were previously installed with Windows
Microsoft Office 2003 Standard is available for computers supplied to eligible charitable organizations and other specially approved recipients, but not for eligible academic recipients

Through the programme, Microsoft provides authorized refurbishers with Microsoft media, special certificates of authenticity (COAs), and Eligible Recipient agreements.

By reducing the cost of obtaining genuine licenses for refurbished computers the Community MAR programme makes the equipment more affordable and useable for eligible recipients.
