Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) was started in December 2002 as a not for-profit with the overall focus on Information Communication Technology for Development. DEF’s mission has been to overcome information poverty through the use of ICT and digital tools. The organization works with different stakeholders to ensure that people who live at the edge of information get connected and empowered with adequate information.
With support from NASSCOM Foundation and Zensar, DEF is operating NDLM centers in Hyderabad and Pune. The Hyderabad centers are situated in government schools at Anjaiah Nagar and became operational from July 2014. The Pune center will be inaugurated on the 6th of October 2014 and will be situated in Yamuna Nagar. These centers are playing an important role of providing digital literacy training to those in need. Apart from modules on digital literacy, they also teach ICT based content on health, education, literacy and livelihood, reaching out to 3,000+ community members in the process.
