NASSCOM Foundation is partnering with member companies to organise the third Digital Literacy Week (DLW) in the month of February 2015;. The initiative, part of the National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM), complements the government’s efforts in making at least one person per household digitally literate. As the industry's Secretariat for NDLM, NASSCOM Foundation will bring leading IT companies together on a collaborative platform to leverage the industry's experience, reach and expertise in the field of digital literacy.
Digital Literacy Week was instituted to engage employees as volunteers in training efforts and raising awareness about digital literacy. The talent pool engaged in IT ecosystem can play a very vital role in NDLM by volunteering their time to provide digital literacy skills to the masses. Digital Literacy Week serves as an opportunity for employees of partner companies to volunteer to impart digital skills to those with little or no computer knowledge.
Since its inception in 2012, Digital Literacy Week has seen participation from over 800 volunteers who have collectively helped train over 25,000 people from under-served communities in basic computer skills. It serves as a catalyst for people to learn basic digital literacy, thus enabling them to take first steps in digital inclusion which would add to their economic and social self-sufficiency.
