Sessions on Moving towards a Barrier-free Environment

The sessions on “Moving towards a Barrier-free Environment” were organised from 7th to 9th October at Tech Mahindra Info city. The sessions were part of the deliverables under the barrier-free accessible buildings component in the five point program “Retrofitting of IT Parks in the Cyberabad Zone”. There were two sessions each day on Inclusion and Accessibility

The sessions were developed for the following target audience 

  • Head HR and Recruiting Manager
  • Builders - Facility Leads/Admin Manager

 

The sessions were conducted by Ms. Rama Chari, Founder and Director, Diversity and Equal Opportunity Centre (DEOC) Bangalore. The first session was on Inclusion focussed on Disability Inclusion at workplace and covered the following areas viz, Breaking myths around disability inclusion, Etiquettes at workplace, Access Audits and Sourcing of persons with disabilities. It also touched upon the United Nations Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The objective of the session was to sensitize Head HR/Recruiting Manager about inclusive workplaces and steps to become an Equal Opportunity Providers.

The second session on Accessibility at workplace focussed on the physical access of the buildings/ parks with respect to barrierfree accessibility. The objective of the session was to sensitize Facility Manager/Admin Heads about physical accessibility and human centric design at workplaces.

The total number of participation was 50 participants for three days with 16 HR and 34 facility managers and builders.
